Hellison’s Levels of Behaviour


Level  0 

Irresponsible


  • Blames and abuses others

  • Calls other students names

  • Disruptive - vocally loud

  • Uses put downs

  • Pushes and shoves others

  • Inattentive during instructions

  • Frequently off task

  • Does not abide by the rules


Level 1

Self control (respect)


  • Practices tasks but is easily distracted

  • Minimal involvement - willing to sit and do nothing

  • Participates without blaming or abusing others

  • Requires teacher supervision to complete the tasks

  • Often non productive

  • Listens to instructions


Level 2

Involvement (participation)


  • Is actively involved in activities

  • Genuinely interested in learning

  • Avoids disturbing others

  • Tries new things without complaining ‘gives it a go’

  • Helps set up equipment and tidies up afterwards

  • Tries hard, is honest and abides by the rules 


Level 3

Self responsibility (self direction)


  • Undertakes to learn and practice skills without supervision

  • Sets and works towards achieving goals

  • Makes sure that they return the equipment 

  • Always prepared for activities

  • Does not need direct supervision

  • Makes own decisions about their learning - self motivated

  • Works cooperatively in group situations 


Level 4

Caring


  • Cares for and respects others

  • Listens to and is sensitive to the needs of others

  • Encourages and assists others

  • Demonstrates good teamwork during activities

  • Will work without rewards
